CUETS Opens MasterCard Service Centre
For Release April 3, 2001

Winnipeg - Regina-based Credit Union Electronic Transaction Services (CUETS), a principal member of MasterCard International and one of the leading card services providers in Canada, today officially opened its new MasterCard Service Centre in downtown Winnipeg. The service centre will provide bilingual telephone support and related administration to support a number of products and clients, including the President's Choice Financial MasterCard recently announced by President's Choice Bank.

In a brief ceremony at the new service centre on ..., Chief Executive Officer S.P. (Stan) Kuss highlighted the major reasons for selecting Winnipeg over a number of other locations. "From the outset, we were very impressed with the infrastructure that exists in Winnipeg to support the contact centre industry, including strong telecommunications support, a vibrant contact centre association and a skilled Call Centre Team. Winnipeg also offers a culturally diverse, highly trained contact centre workforce that can meet our expanding needs for bilingual service representatives."

Initially, Kuss expects CUETS to employ 35 telephone-based service representatives and operational resources in Winnipeg. Over the next five years, Kuss estimates that CUETS will employ up to 150 employees to support hundreds of thousands of President's Choice Financial MasterCard cardholders across Canada.

"The ability to attract and retain these resources will play a major role in our company's future success," Kuss added. "I am proud to say that CUETS has established a solid reputation as a progressive "employer of choice" in Regina, and I am confident we will quickly establish a similar reputation in Winnipeg."

With an employment base of 300 supporting a client list of 600 MasterCard affiliates (credit unions, caisses populaires, banks and other organizations), CUETS is emerging as a major player in Canada's card services marketplace. The company, now in its 20th year of operation, has grown from $25 million in annual revenue to $100 million in the past five years. As a result, CUETS ranks solidly among the Top 50 companies in Saskatchewan by revenue and among the Top 20 companies in growth rate.
