Teamwork Key to Success for Hosie
December
15, 2003 - If you ask Winnipeg Cardholder Services
Representative Scott Hosie about his recent recognition
for outstanding customer service at the 2003 MECCA Awards,
he'll modestly tell you that he feels no more deserving
of the People Award than many others he works with and
relies on every day. "My colleagues all deserve
recognition for the fantastic customer service they
are providing daily to our cardholders," he says.
But if you ask Scott's supervisor Dido Nyomba about
his contribution, be prepared for some impressive accolades
about his work standards and team commitment. "Scott
has great customer service skills," she says. "He
offers friendly, tactful and professional service at
all times and works to make sure any cardholder situations
that arise are resolved quickly and efficiently."
As much as his customer service skills earn him praise,
Nyomba points to his teamwork as his greatest strength.
"He's an awesome team player. He challenges his
teammates by having a friendly "best stats of the
day" competition and is always willing to help
whenever one of his co-workers has a question."
Thinking back to his first few months at CUETS, Hosie's
happy to return the training favour. "I had so
much to learn when I started, and all of the employees
were so patient and helpful when I had questions,"
he explains. "Now it's my turn to show the same
support and encouragement to others when they need assistance.
I love the satisfaction of being able to assist others
with problems or concerns when I can."
For Scott, the teamwork comes naturally. He's been
employed in the Winnipeg contact centre industry for
ten years and along the way has developed a strong sense
of the teamwork required to succeed. "I really
like the people I work with at CUETS very much, and
earning their respect and friendship is important to
me," he states. "For me, being part of a team
also means following through for every cardholder until
the problem or concern has been addressed. I think it's
very important to be considerate of the people you work
with and ensure that other employees don't have to deal
with unfinished business."
Hosie's teamwork philosophy sets a great example for
daughters Sheila (14) and Mikaela (9), whom Hosie is
raising to have a global teamwork perspective. "We
do what we can to support third world development and
help those who are less fortunate. My girls and I have
been blessed to be given all we need to be happy in
life, and I want to try and make even a small difference
to help improve someone else's life."
When Scott isn't working, camping or just hanging out
with his girls, he's usually drawing on his electronics
and computer training and trying to make sense of some
piece of damaged audio visual or computer equipment.
"I'm a big fan of A/V equipment and I enjoy trying
to fix anything that is broken."
After the announcement that Hosie had won the People
Award, Nyomba surprised him with a $200 gift from CUETS
for his outstanding contributions to customer service
at CUETS. The money will come in handy at Christmas
or, with Hosie's penchant for electronics, perhaps there's
a piece of equipment out there with his name on it.
