Call them happy.

Employees at a Regina call centre have something to phone home about, after CUETS was named Canada’s top call centre for employee satisfaction by pollsters Ipsos-Reid.

“I think more and more organizations are really understanding the value of having a satisfied workforce,” said Bob Lane, CUETS spokesperson and vice-president of Human Resources.

Fifteen in-bound call centres participated in the Ipsos-Reid evaluation program, which included interviews with customers who had recently contacted a call centre and a survey of randomly selected employees on subjects like skill development and working conditions.

CUETS was founded in Regina 25 years ago and currently has about 550 employees-about 200 work in call centres at the company’s locations in Regina and Winnipeg.

The company’s primary clients are Canada’s 500 Credit Unions, as well as Caisse Populaires and President’s Choice Financial Institutions.

Lane said he thinks the success of CUETS has to do with the collaborative, team-oriented approach the company takes to its operations and its progressive management style. He says a lot of time is spent on employee communications, and management is up-front about the company’s operations.

Employees also fill out annual surveys on issues in the company and share their ideas on what could make the organization run more effectively. In the past, this has included ideas about work schedules, hours of work and employee-recognition strategies, which management has then acted on.

“There’s a trust that when we need to work on certain issues we act on it. Their suggestions don’t just go into a black hole.” He said.

Lane says CUETS is also a “dignified workplace” where people feel accepted quickly, and employee turnover is less than half the industry standard.
