Leading Local Employer Introduces
Bonus for French Language Skills


CUETS, the Regina-based national MasterCard service provider for hundreds of credit unions, caisses populaires and other clients, has introduced a special bonus program to recognize employees capable of working in both official languages. An $800 annual language bonus will be granted to all employees who successfully meet the established standards of bilingualism developed by the College universitaire de St. Boniface.

“CUETS’ business continues to expand right across the country and it is important that we offer quality services in both official languages,” says Chief Executive Officer Stan Kuss, noting that many of CUETS employees provide customer service to MasterCard cardholders in a contact centre environment. “Much of the company’s increasing need to provide services in French can be attributed to a growing Quebec customer base and new clients in New Brunswick, but CUETS also serves thousands of francophones outside of those two provinces.”

Eligibility for the bonus is open to the 400 CUETS employees working in Regina, 200 employees in the Winnipeg Service Centre, as well as future employees hired by the organization. It is estimated that 50 employees currently meet the established bilingual standards.

“The language bonus is just one part of our strategy to deliver quality service to francophones,” says Kuss. “CUETS has a well-developed call monitoring process in place to ensure quality service, and provide ongoing support for employees learning to speak French. This includes funding for French classes, lunch-hour discussions and reference material. CUETS also employs a bilingual training officer to assist francophone staff apply their language skills most appropriately to their specific roles.”

The language bonus is an additional feature added to CUETS’ competitive compensation and benefits package.
