ONLINE PRIVACY POLICY
Many people have questions about what personal information
is collected or stored when they communicate via the
Internet, and how that information will be used. You
can travel through most of our web sites without giving
us any information about yourself. But sometimes we
do need information to provide services that you request,
or you may wish to send us e-mail. This Online Privacy
Policy answers questions that you may have about the
information we collect when you visit our web sites
or send us e-mail, and what we do (and don't do) with
that information.
Visiting our web sites
When you go to our web sites and move from page to
page, read pages or download content onto your computer,
we learn which pages are visited, what content is downloaded,
and the address of web sites that you visited immediately
before coming to our web sites. However, none of this
is associated with you as an individual. It is measured
only in aggregate. We use this information to find out
how many people visit our web sites and which sections
of the sites are visited the most frequently. This helps
us to know what type of information is most useful to
you so that we can improve our web sites to make it
easier for you to access information. We record the
statistical information on the numbers of visitors to
our web sites, but no information about you in particular
will be kept or used.
Links to other web sites
Our web sites contains links to many other web sites
that are part of or affiliated with the Canadian co-operative
financial system. When you leave our site to visit one
of these other sites, the only information transferred
to the new site is which web site you came from. This
allows other sites to monitor their own web traffic,
but does not disclose any personal information about
you.
CUETS is not responsible for the privacy policies or
content of any linked sites. This Online Privacy Policy
applies only to information collected through www.cuets.ca
and www1.cucardsonline.com.
Providing personal information online
For some of our services, you are asked to provide
personal information to us over the Internet. When you
apply for a MasterCard online, for example, you are
asked to fill in a number of fields, including your
name, address, employer, current salary, etc. When you
register for our online banking service at www1.cucardsonline.com,
we create a profile for you, which includes your name,
address, account numbers, password etc. All information
that you provide to us in this way is encrypted and
confidential. We have strict safeguards in place to
ensure the security of your personal information, and
we honour your choices for its use. We are careful to
protect your data from loss, misuse, unauthorised access
or disclosure, copying, alteration, or destruction.
Each time you use CUCARDSONLINE.COM, we collect
your password, information about the transactions that
you complete and the web pages that you visit while
using the service. We use your password to identify
you as a user of the service, and we use specific transaction
information for servicing purposes (e.g. billing). We
may use your profile in responding to your inquiries.
Aggregate transaction information is used to assess
and improve our service.
Using cookies for added security
A cookie is a very small text file generated by a web
page server. It is essentially your identification card,
and cannot be executed as code or deliver viruses. Cookies
cannot be used to gather sensitive information about
you or data residing on your computer. When you visit
www.cuets.ca, no
cookies are stored on your machine. However, cookies
are used when you visit CUCARDSONLINE.COM. These cookies
are not designed to identify you personally; rather,
they are intended to enhance navigation and the security
of your session. In order to do this, we use a type
of cookie called a "session cookie".
Session cookies store information only for the length
of time that you are connected to a web site - they
are not stored on your hard drive. Once you leave the
web site, the originator of the cookie no longer has
the information that was contained on it. CUETS uses
session cookies as an additional security feature for
our on-line banking service, CUCARDSONLINE.COM. For
example, when you log onto CUCARDSONLINE.COM and are
authenticated through your password, a cookie will store
the identification number of your browser. Throughout
your session, the session cookie acts as a type of digital
signature to ensure that, at all times during your session,
we are dealing with you. We also use session cookies
to track your visits within our site. We use that information
to determine the type of information that you are looking
for in our site and to improve our site. We use information
about the site you visited immediately prior to our
site to assess the viability of links to our site that
we have created on third party sites. We do not use
cookies to track which web pages you visit after you
leave our site.
We do not use any "persistent cookies", which
write information onto your hard drive and remain there
until the expiry date of the cookie. This provides you
with added security, since information such as your
password is not stored anywhere on your computer.
For CUCARDSONLINE.COM to operate, your browser must
be set to accept session cookies. Many browsers don't
distinguish between session cookies and persistent cookies,
and must therefore be configured to accept all cookies.
If you are concerned about having your browser enabled
to accept cookies while you are surfing other web sites,
we recommend that you enable your browser to notify
you when it is receiving a cookie. This allows you to
accept or reject any cookie presented by the web server
you are visiting. Click here
to find out more about how you can set up your browser.
E-mail Comments, Questions or Responses
When you send us an e-mail or when you ask us to respond
to you by e-mail, we learn your e-mail address and any
information you have included in the e-mail. We use
your e-mail address to acknowledge your comments and/or
reply to your questions, and we will store your communication
and our reply in case we correspond further. We will
use your e-mail address only to respond to your questions,
when you ask us to. We will not disclose your e-mail
address to anyone, add it to any mailing lists, or send
you any unsolicited messages. We also do not buy e-mail
lists.
Remember that e-mail is generally unencrypted. Whenever
our web sites prompt you to transmit confidential information
to us over the Internet, we ensure that the transmission
is secure. We recommend that you use caution when sending
free-format e-mail messages to us and that you do not
include confidential information (such as account numbers,
etc) in those messages, as they are not encrypted. For
